Expression of Interest
The MCHIP Project, a Jhpiego-led, USAID-funded program in collaboration with relevant State Governments is seeking expressions of interest from highly qualified candidates to constitute 6 doctor/nurse teams to conduct an assessment of 30 selected public and private health facilities across Akwa Ibom, Benue and Imo States to determine their readiness status to provide evidence-based interventions to mothers and newborns experiencing life-threatening complications in pregnancy, during childbirth, or in the postnatal and neonatal periods. The ultimate aim of the assessment is to identify institutional barriers to the provision of these services which are critical to Nigeria’s achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 and 5 by the year 2015, and to make recommendations for appropriate solutions that will address the root causes of the gaps identified.
Applicants must be Nigerian physicians or nurse/midwives who are registered and licensed by their relevant professional regulatory bodies (i.e. Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria or Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria) and have been trained as master trainers for life-saving skills (LSS) or providers of emergency obstetric and newborn care. They must also be familiar with the use of procedure checklists to observe critical clinical skills.
Previous experience in using anatomic models such as MamaNatalie or NeoNatalie models will be an advantage. Each selected applicant will undergo a brief orientation to the assessment tools, models and smartphone technology and will only work in one state for a period of 15-20 days in the month of April 2014. MCHIP will pay a consultant honorarium, cost of accommodation and travel as well as allowances for meals and incidentals during the assignment.
Interested candidates should send a written letter of expression of interest, scanned copies of their diploma, CV and current practicing license to: jhunigeriaproject@yahoo.com not later than 25th March, 2014. For further information about jhpiego, visit our website at www.jhpiego.org
