Call for Expression of Interest

For Solar Developers and Solar Contractors to Pre-qualify for Design, Supply and Installation of Decentralized Solar Energy Systems in Kano and Kaduna

The SolarNigeria Programme (SNP) is an initiative of the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID). It aims to scale the public and private markets for distributed solar energy in Nigeria.

The SolarNigeria Programme has many components. Together they will overcome barriers and help to grow the solar market, increasing demand from households, businesses and public institutions. The Expression of Interest (EOI) advertised here is for a Commercial Solar Pilot (the Commercial Pilot).

The Commercial Pilot aims to demonstrate the technical and financial viability of solar power solutions for industry in Nigeria. Growth in the market for commercial scale solar will have positive effects. These include reduced costs for businesses leading to the creation of new jobs, increased productivity and income. A more active solar market will also help to reduce the costs and improve the effectiveness of solar provided to government facilities such as schools and clinics.

An important overall priority for DFID is to support the development of states in Northern Nigeria. So the Commercial Pilot will focus on the cities of Kano and Kaduna.

The purpose of this EOI is to pre-qualify solar developers and solar contractors to participate in the Commercial Pilot. The Commercial Pilot is at the stage of Concept Design. Responses to this EOI will shape decisions about the proposed Commercial Pilot. Please note that, because the Commercial Pilot is at the stage of Concept Design, the description and timelines in the EOI are indicative only. SNP does not bind itself, DFID or other programme partners by this notice or the EOI to any particular programme design or delivery.

Responses to the EOI will need to be received by 31^st July 2015.
