Maternal and neonatal mortality rank among the most important of causes of avoidable deaths globally. About 99% of maternal deaths occur in developing countries with Nigeria being the second largest contributor behind India with a maternal mortality ratio of 576 per 100,000 live births. Simple and known interventions can prevent most of these deaths and dramatically improve maternal and neonatal health overall. Solving maternal and newborn mortality requires better management and organization of the health system as it relates to pregnant women, at the birth process and the creation of a proper mentoring system.
Implement a mentoring approach which will be used to train HCWs on the early identification of maternal and newborn complications, immediate life-saving actions and prompt referral to the nearest hospital for advanced care.
